According to The Star Online - more of the alleged sex video of an Opposition leader has been released/surfaced on Youtube. The article is as follows:-

"PETALING JAYA: Three new clips of the sex video, featuring a man allegedly resembling Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, were posted on YouTube. A search on YouTube Thursday found there were four clips, starting with the segment which was released on April 3.

As at 10.30pm, the four clips, each about four minutes long, were still available on YouTube. At about 11pm, one clip was removed by YouTube for violating its policy on nudity or sexual content. By 11.35pm, all clips had been removed."

I tried to look for the videos... but unfortunately, it is really deleted already. =(

Silver hits 31-year high!

Silver jumped to its highest since early 1980 on Tuesday on inflation concerns and a rise in ETF holdings to another record, while gold edged down as the euro held below this week's five-month high versus the dollar.

FUNDAMENTALS

* Spot silver rose as high as $38.72 an ounce and was quoted at $38.68 an ounce by 0046 GMT, up 26 cents. Gold eased 45 cents to $1,436.10 an ounce.

* U.S. gold futures for June rose $4.5 an ounce to $1,437.5 an ounce.

* IShares Silver Trust said its holdings rose to another record at 11,162.45 tonnes by April 4 from 11,139.52 tonnes on March 24.

* Analysts remain wary of silver's extreme volatility, which has led to some heart-stopping reversals in recent years. When commodities sold off heavily in mid-March, silver dropped nearly 5 percent in a single day, versus gold's 2 percent fall.

Sarawak polls on April 16?

Attention has shifted to the likely dates for polling and nomination in the 10th Sarawak election following yesterday’s dissolution of the state assembly. A favourite date among pundits and politicians is April 16, a Saturday, preceded by the nomination process speculated for either April 6 or 9.

Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof will chair a special meeting here tomorrow to discuss matters pertaining to the state election, including the nomination and polling dates. Of particular interest would be the duration of the campaign period.

The April 6 and 16 combination gives a 10-day campaign period while the April 9 nomination would reduce this to seven days. The Election Commission had in the 2006 state polls decided on a 11-day campaign period. Speaker Datuk Seri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar said his office received yesterday the proclamation of the state assembly dissolution signed by Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng.

The notice of dissolution will be handed over to the Election Commission today.

“It will be up to the commission to fix the nomination and polling dates,” Asfia said during a press conference, near here. Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud had last Thursday informed the Yang Dipertua Negeri of the dissolution plan. In the just dissolved assembly, Barisan Nasional held 63 of the 71 seats, DAP six, while Parti Keadilan Rakyat and Parti Cinta Malaysia had one each. The state election would be held four months ahead of its expiry on July 23.

The last state election was held on May 20, 2006. State Election Commission director Datuk Takun Suggah had said that based on the last electoral roll as of Dec 31 last year, there were 985,464 voters. “Those who had registered as voters between January and now would not qualify as their names were not included in the latest electoral roll.”

PKFZ: Chan Kong Choy charged with cheating.

Former Transport Minister Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy claimed trial to three counts of cheating over the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal. Chan is the second VVIP to be charged over the scandal-ridden project after his predecessor Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik was charged on July 29, 2010 with cheating over the same project.

On the first count under Section 417 of the Penal Code, Chan is charged with deceiving then Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at his office here between Feb 24 and 25 in 2004 into agreeing to approve Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd as the turnkey developer of the Transshipment Hub project at the Pulau Indah Free Zone at an estimated cost of RM1bil.

He is said to have dishonestly concealed the fact that the development cost would be financed through Kuala Dimensi’s issuance of bonds through Transshipment Megahub Bhd, with the support of the government and the Transport Ministry.

On the second count, he is charged with cheating Abdullah, also at the Prime Minister’s office here between Oct 11 and 28, in 2005 by deceiving the latter into approving Kuala Dimensi as the turnkey developer to carry out additional development works at PKFZ.

SINGAPORE’S Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew will accept the reality if any of his grandchildren is homosexual, Sin Chew Daily and Nanyang Siang Pau reported.

In an interview with The Straits Times, Lee said homosexuality was a genetic issue. Sin Chew Daily, which quoted excerpts from the interview, reported Lee as saying that former US vice-president Dick Cheney was against homosexuality but he still loved his daughter even though she was a lesbian.

However, Lee stressed that none of his children was a homosexual. He said that of his six grandchildren, his favourite was Li Yipeng who was born an albino. He added that Yipeng was respectful of elders and hardworking even though he was slow in his studies.

Aussie floods may affect TNB’s fuel costs.

News about massive floods in Australia might be the last thing that Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) wants to hear, right at the start of the new year. Australia, the world's biggest exporter of coking coal and second-largest exporter of thermal coal, was reported to be hit by devastating floods over an area the size of France and Germany combined, forcing 75% of its coal mines to grind to a halt.

Thermal coal is used to fuel power plants while coking coal is used by steel mills to fuel their furnaces. Based on TNB's latest annual report, coal accounted for 48% of the group's fuel costs and 40% of its power generation.

In the financial year (FY) 2010, the group purchased 17% of its annual coal requirements of 18 million tonnes from Australia, 71% from Indonesia and 11% from South Africa.

It is, therefore, not surprising to see that research houses are becoming increasingly concerned over the impact of the flooding in Australia on TNB's earnings.

AmResearch, in its recent note, said Newcastle coal spot prices had risen 18% over the past month to US$126 per tonne, which was 26% above its forecast FY11 to FY13 coal price assumption of US$100 per tonne.

Based on the current coal prices and the exchange rate between the US dollar and ringgit, it is estimated that TNB's forecast FY11 to FY13 net profits could drop by 28% to 29%. “We estimate that a US$10 per tonne increase in the cost of coal, which is above our average coal cost projection, could shave TNB's FY11 forecast net profit by 18%.

“But we also note that the US dollar has depreciated against the ringgit by 3% to RM3.06, which can partly offset the impact of higher fuel costs,” the research house said. However, it said TNB's tariffs were reviewed bi-annually in January and July, with coal costs being a key component in the adjustment of rates.

“Hence, for now, we maintain our forecasts pending further guidance on TNB's coal costs,” it said. Moreover, it is believed there could be a seasonal factor to the spike in coal prices due to the unusually cold weather in Europe and the United States. “Every US$10 per tonne increase in coal prices will hurt TNB's earnings by 15% to 18%,” said MIDF Research. It said TNB had assumed an average coal cost of US$100 to US$102 per tonne for FY11.

Sexy Santarinas’ party foiled.

A Yuletide party featuring foreign guest relations officers in skimpy Santarina outfits at a Tanjung Tokong entertainment outlet came to an end when the Immigration Department showed up. The 47 foreigners – 28 Vietnamese, 18 China nationals and a Thai aged between 20 and 30 – were detained for violating their social visit passes. The three-hour operation which started at midnight was dubbed “Ops Sayang”.

The raid was conducted by the Immigration Department’s compliance unit with the presence of officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). Unit head Mustaffa Kamal Hanaffi said this was the first time the unit had collaborated with the MACC in conducting a raid at an entertainment outlet in the state. “We detained a Myanmar male national not having valid travel document. “We also nabbed a 28-year-old local man who is believed to be responsible in ‘protecting’ the foreign women,” he said.

Cecilia Cheung Injured, fall off a horse. ouch

Hong Kong star Cecilia Cheung was injured when she fell off a horse during shooting of the movie "The Lady Generals of the Yang Family" ("Yang Men Nv Jiang Zhi Jun Ling Ru Shan"), Hong Kong media reported. Cheung's agent, Emily, said during an interview, "She tried twice to ride the horse before shooting. Everything was okay. But she was thrown off the horse during shooting." Luckily for her, Cheung suffered only a minor injury during the accident. She even published several photos online after knowing many fans were worried about her.

WCT Berhad: Storm in a Teacup.

Below expectations; maintain OUTPERFORM. WCT’s 9M10 results were below expectations as annualised core net profit made up only 82% of our full-year forecast and 90% of consensus. We had been too optimistic on the timing of recognition of existing and new jobs. That said, 4Q should be a better quarter as new jobs will start contributing, activities are picking up in the Middle East and property contribution should increase. We cut our FY10 EPS forecast by 6.3% and maintain our FY11-12 numbers given WCT’s outstanding order book of RM4.4bn.

We maintain our OUTPERFORM call and RM4.21 target price, which is pegged to an unchanged 10% discount to RNAV. The main re-rating catalyst is project wins. WCT is one of our top picks for the construction sector.

Dented in 3Q10. 9M10 revenue sank 63.3% yoy, dragged down by the 73% yoy revenue slump in 3Q10 due to (i) the completion of projects, (iii) delay in the recognition of new jobs and (iii) slowdown in construction in the Middle East during Ramadhan. However, EBIT margin expanded 6.9% pts to 12.8%, mainly due the recognition of about RM15m tail-end profits from the Abu Dhabi F1 job. This cushioned 9M10 core net profit which ended up down 13.3%. The absence of dividends was not a surprise.

Cutting FY10 forecast. In view of the above, we cut our FY10 forecast by 6.3% which now assumes strong contribution from new jobs, a pick-up in construction activities in the Middle East and stronger property contributions. We expect 4Q to be a better quarter. Our FY11-12 numbers are relatively unchanged, driven by the RM4.4bn outstanding order book and our assumption of RM1.5bn-2bn new contracts for the next two years.

Laggard; outlook remains positive. The outlook for construction remains positive, both locally and overseas, and there is a strong likelihood of more contract wins in the next six months. WCT's latest project in Qatar worth RM1.4bn is by far the largest open tender project awarded to a local contractor this year. WCT’s YTD share price performance has lagged behind IJM’s and Gamuda’s. We view this as a buying opportunity.

Surprise, surprise! Edison Chen is not ready for marriage.

“We are not ready, there are still many things for us to do,” the infamous bad-boy tells Sina at a recent fashion event in Beijing. He adds: “Frankly, I’ve never thought of getting married. Marriage is a label to me. We can be together everyday and it’s enough that we’re happy.”

Chen has been dating Vincy Yeung for four years.

Chen, who was promoting his new album, also reveals he will be working with Jay Chou in the upcoming Initial D 2. Filming is expected to start next year. Meanwhile, he will start touring in early 2011.

When discussing Malaysian jazz, the name most people would associate with it would be pianist, Michael Veerapen. Together with drummer Lewis Pragasam, they organized Malaysia’s first Jazz Rock concert in 1978, which brought about a tremendous interest in jazz especially amongst younger audiences and thereby planting the seeds for the way jazz is loved in this country.

Even before graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music with Summa Cum Laude in 1982, he has made a name for himself as an upcoming pianist, having worked with some of the more popular bands who were at the forefront of the 70s era.

Michael has traveled around the world performing at jazz festivals, concerts and recently put together a 'duet' performances with his illustrious colleague, Jeremy Monteiro at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, with the aim of challenging himself in the more difficult and demanding styles of jazz performance and improvisation.

This time round, Michael will be accompanied by the lovely multi-talented Joanna Bessey.

Joanna's showbiz career began with the award-winning TV show “Kopitiam” (*Highly Commended ‘Best Actress in a Comedy Role’ – Asian Television Awards) which aired for seven years.

Joanna recently directed "So You Think You Can Mamak?' and 'Wacky Bar' at PJ Live Arts (PJLA). Joanna was nominated *'Best Director'* in 2008, for her directorial debut of Ibsen's 'An Enemy of the People' at KLPAC.

Last year, Joanna hosted the BBC World News travel documentary, "Exploring Malaysia" airing worldwide and in one episode was coaxed into singing while traveling on the Eastern & Oriental Express train.

EONCap shareholders agree for Hong Leong Bank’s RM5bil takeover!

EON Capital Bhd (EONCap) has received 97% of the voting shares at the EGM called to consider the proposed acquisition of the group by Hong Leong Bank Bhd for RM5.06bil cash, says chairman Gooi Hoe Soon. “The proposed disposal was carried with 97% voting for the resolution and 3% against it,” he told reporters yesterday after the group’s EGM.

Gooi said shareholders representing 436 million shares or 63% of EONCap’s total share capital attended the EGM and voted on the resolutions. He also said representatives of Primus (M) Sdn Bhd, the single largest stakeholder of EONCap which holds 20% of the group, had walked out of the EGM before the voting started.

Primus is currently fighting a case in court to stop the proposed acquisition by Hong Leong Bank, citing that it was not lawful and not in the best interests of the group. When asked to comment on that matter, Gooi declined to say anything as it was now with the High Court. The hearing for the case continues for the rest of this week and from Oct 20 to 22. Gooi also said the second resolution for a special dividend received the approval of 97.23% or 424.836 million shares while 2.77% or 12.088 million shares were against.

The group told Bursa Malaysia yesterday that as set out in ordinary resolution 1 on the proposed disposal, which had been passed by the shareholders of the company at the EGM held on Sept 27, the board of EONCap had been duly empowered by the shareholders of the company to decide, at its sole discretion, whether or not to accept Hong Leong Bank’s offer, subject to the final decision of the High Court of Malaya in relation to the petition filed by Primus on June 21, being obtained.

A season after breaking the bank on a squad of "galactico" players that failed to deliver a single title, Real Madrid is banking on coach Jose Mourinho to turn an underachieving squad of stars into champions.

Madrid president Florentino Perez wasted little time in securing the Portuguese coach's services after he led Inter Milan to the Champions League trophy at Madrid's own Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in May.

Now, the self-proclaimed "Special One" faces his biggest challenge yet as he looks to turn around the fortunes of football's biggest club.

"Real Madrid is a unique team in how it generates such enormous expectations, it's been the best club of the 20th century," Mourinho said. "I've had little time here so far but I'm already aware of what this team is and I want to go down in the history of Real Madrid."

Counting on players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso, Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas means the pressure is high - especially after another early exit from Europe last season and the humiliating Copa del Rey exit when it lost 4-0 to third-tier Alcorcon.

Madrid set a club record for points last season but two defeats by Barcelona proved the difference as its biggest rival won the league for a second straight season.

With the exits of Raul Gonzalez and Jose Maria "Guti" Gutierrez, Mourinho is set to spearhead a new age at Madrid, led by Ronaldo.

"Cristiano is very happy," Mourinho said. "He'll have a magnificent season under me."

After spending over 250 million euros (US$343 million) on players last summer, Madrid has been relatively quiet this time around with Argentina winger Angel Di Maria's arrival from Benfica for 25 million euros (US$31.7 million) its most expensive transfer. Madrid also signed Germany standout Sami Khedira from Stuttgart, Getafe midfielder Pedro Leon and longtime Mourinho favorite Ricardo Carvalho from Chelsea.

The arrivals of teenager Sergio Canales from Racing Santander and Germany playmaker Mesut Oezil from Werder Bremen are shaping up to be the most important, with Kaka out until December following knee surgery.

"(Oezil) is a creative player who is more offensive than (Fernando) Gago or Lassana (Diarra). He's got similar qualities to Canales," Mourinho said. "(Canales) is a player I like a lot. If he doesn't change, he'll get a lot of minutes in this team."

While Ronaldo and striker Gonzalo Higuain guarantee goals, Mourinho's biggest task might be in getting the best out of Karim Benzema, who has largely been a disappointment since a 35 million euros (US$44 million) move from Lyon last summer.

"Mentally I'm very strong and I'm convinced I'm going to score a lot of goals," Benzema said.

Carvalho will also be pressed into action immediately as Madrid is without injured center backs Pepe, Raul Albiol and Ezequiel Garay for its Aug. 29 opener against Mallorca.

Madrid's players have become quick believers in Mourinho, with Oezil saying his decision to move to the Spanish capital was all down to playing under Mourinho.

Goalkeeper Casillas said of his new coach: "He's got a lot of hope and desire to do things well. He's got a young group keen to achieve things. We have no reason to envy Barcelona."

Mourinho himself is keen on making history.

"I want to be the only one to have won the three most important leagues in the world: Spain, Italy and England," Mourinho said.

Barcelona will be Mourinho's biggest worry as it fields eight players from Spain's World Cup winning team.

But Mourinho is already familiar with Barcelona - where he previously worked as an assistant coach - from his infamous clashes while coach at Chelsea and Inter, which eliminated the defending European champions in last season's semifinals.

She wanted a job in Singapore and appeared to like him, said the former general manager of Hotel Grand Central in Singapore, who is accused of doping and molesting the job applicant in February last year.

Tan Hwa Kok, 45, said this on the stand on Monday after his defence was called.

Denying that he had doped her so as to molest her, he said that the 24-year-old Malaysian woman had asked him for a sleeping pill.

He had not done it surreptitiously to take sexual advantage of her, he testified.

The woman came from Sarawak on Feb 3 last year, hoping to get a marketing job in the hotel in Singapore.

However, she alleged that two days after the interview, Tan slipped Zolpidem, a powerful sleeping pill that can be prescribed only by doctors, into her drink.

He is then alleged to have kissed her lips and licked her private parts at about 11.30am on Feb 5 last year.

Tan, who resigned from his job a month later and is now a business consultant, insisted he did not force himself on her, saying she was a willing partner.

He had called the woman after a former lover of his, also a Malaysian, phoned him from Sarawak to say that she had a good friend who was "pretty, single and available" who needed a job.

They later communicated through e-mail and text messages.

He said that he felt very comfortable with her easy-going attitude.

As he was estranged from his wife, he was hoping to start "a long and lasting relationship" with the woman.

In her testimony in May, the woman admitted she wanted a job in Singapore, and thought that if she did not reject Tan outright, it would leave a good impression on him.

However, she denied leading him on.

She said that she had been traumised by the molest incident and now suffers from nightmares.

The age of making the silent hybrid and other cars may be coming to an end. Gas-electric hybrids, propelled by electric motors at low speeds, are well-known for their quiet ride and great mileage.

But their silence isn't always golden. Some researchers and safety groups say that quiet operation - "hybrid creep" - can pose risks for unsuspecting pedestrians and the blind, who use sound cues. Advocates for the blind have sought the addition of artificial noises in hybrids for several years, concerned that the expected sales growth of hybrids could lead to more pedestrian fatalities and injuries.

Hybrids account for about 2 percent of new car sales each year but auto companies are expected to boost production in advance of tougher fuel efficiency standards this decade. "This is an example of too much of a good thing," said John Pare, executive director for strategic initiatives with the National Federation of the Blind.

"Cars got quieter, that was good. Suddenly they got to be so quiet that it added an element of danger." The government's auto safety agency said in a research report last year that hybrid vehicles are twice as likely to be involved in pedestrian crashes at low speeds compared with cars with conventional engines. The study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration examined circumstances in which the vehicles were slowing down or coming to a stop, backing up or entering or departing a parking space.

More than 4,300 pedestrians were killed in 2008, according to the most recent data available. The government has been researching the safety risks that hybrids and electrics could pose for pedestrians, particularly the blind, along with the elderly and children, for vehicles traveling at 20 mph (32 kph) or less. When a car is going faster, the friction between the tire and the road's surface makes the vehicle louder.

The quiet hybrid phenomenon already has its place in pop culture. In an episode of NBC's "The Office," paper salesman Andy Bernard uses his stealthy blue Toyota Prius to sneak up on Dwight Schrute and pin his bitter rival against a hedge. One concerned co-worker, watching the unfolding drama, says "the Prius is silent if he keeps it under 5 miles per hour (8 kph)." Congress is heeding the warnings, adding sound performance requirements for hybrids and electric cars to an auto safety bill being considered after the massive Toyota recalls.

CapitaMalls Malaysia to raise RM860m from IPO.

Consumers and traders in several states have voiced their frustration in getting supply of sugar, describing the shortage as the "worst so far". According to The Star, a check at several grocery shops has revealed that no sugar had been on sale for over a week.

Lamented shopkeeper, Abu Hassan Kamal, 53 told The Star that his last stock came on may 12 and his suppliers have not aasured me of any new delivery in the next few days. He called the government to resolve the problem, particularly with Ramadhan approaching. "What is the use of a licence to sell sugar when there is no supply?" Abu asked, referring to the new regulation by the Domestic Trade, Consumerism and Cooperatives Ministry to make retailers apply for a licence to sell the price-controlled item.

In Penang, state Domestic Trade, Consumer Affairs and Religious Affairs Committee chairman Abdul Malik Abdul Kassim said there was no dearth of sugar, adding that it was monitoring the situation closely. FOMCA secretary general, Muhd Sha'ani Abdullah said it had received complaints in various areas including Kuantan, Muar, Klanf and Temerloh since a month ago.

He said the issue was not due to retailers hoarding sugar but the smuggling of the item to other countries. Federation of Sundry Goods Merchant president, Lean Hing Chuan said the shortage nationwide was caused by manufacturers dividing production, adding that its members started noticing slowdown in April.

He also said the federation had decided in a meeting yesterday to clear their stock of the three controlled items; sugar, flour and palm oil based cooking oil by June 15.

He was quick to praise the performance of Steven Gerrard, who showed his versatility in playing in a number of positions as Capello tested formations.

German trading restrictions compound EURO's troubles

The fallout from Germany's announcement yesterday of the ban on shorting Eurozone government debt, associated CDS and German financial stocks has continued, although the impact is now being felt more squarely in European equity markets, which are down in the 2%-3% range, while EUR/USD has thus far only marginally extended yesterday's sizeable drop. However, we do not view EUR/USD's relative stability during the Asian and early European hours as indicative of the likely price action from here, and instead we would look for the currency pair to continue to move lower in the near-term.

On the German trading restrictions, it is important to note that other European countries have not followed the ban on shorting Eurozone government bonds and associated CDS, meaning that investors can still conduct those types of transactions and highlighting the lack of unity among Eurozone policy makers. And it appears that Germany's move was designed in large part to appease domestic lawmakers and garner their support in advance of the opening of parliamentary debate on Germany's contribution to the EU/IMF EUR750 bln debt backstop agreed to earlier this month.

While such populist measures may resonate with some lawmakers, financial market participants make an entirely different assessment. Banning short selling in some securities has, in the most basic terms, encouraged traders to short a proxy for those securities, and the EUR fits that simple criteria most easily. And that is only the knee-jerk, initial response. The longer term ramifications/implications could be even more damaging to the EUR.

Among the key attributes of a 'reserve currency' are deep, liquid and transparent money and bond markets. However, these measures, banning short selling of Eurozone government debt, run directly contrary to that critical criterium which reserve managers look for in assessing where to invest their funds. And while some could argue that removing the short selling ban on Eurozone debt will alleviate such concerns (assuming it happens), the fact that it has been imposed once will be taken to mean that it could happen again, and potentially on an even broader scale (i.e. if other countries join in). Hence, these actions represent not only a short term risk to the EUR's reserve currency status, but could damage its longer term appeal as well.

1MDB, Malton to redevelop RMAF base.

The cabinet has agreed in principle to entrust the task of redeveloping the Sungai Besi Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base to a consortium of companies that include 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), sources say. The other members of the consortium are Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) and Datuk Desmond Lim of Malton Bhd, they say. It cannot be ascertained if Malton or Lim, through his private company, has a stake in the consortium.

It is learnt that the mandate of the consortium is to develop the 162-hectare site into a multi-billion-ringgit Islamic financial centre. This is in line with the government’s plans to enhance Malaysia as a regional Islamic financial centre.

The sources say the government will also ink an agreement with the Qatar government that will commit an undertaking for major investments in Malaysia. The investments will be jointly undertaken with 1MDB and may likely include the redevelopment of the Sungai Besi RMAF base. It is said that 1MDB would hold 30% interest in the consortium while Lim or Malton would hold 40%. LTAT would hold the remaining 30%.

The Sungai Besi airport, which served as the country’s first international airport from 1952 to 1965, was eyed by many parties as it is probably the last major tract of land that is located close to the city centre and has the potential for a multi-billion-ringgit redevelopment. It borders the Sungai Besi Highway at one end and Taman Seputeh and Istana Negara at the other.

“The decision to develop the base into an Islamic financial centre was made by the cabinet recently. It was with the view of promoting Malaysia as an Islamic finance hub in this region. It will ultimately create a platform for all Islamic finance-related institutions to set up base,” said a source.

It is learnt that the runway will be maintained so that private jets can fly in corporate big-wigs to do business in the financial district. There will also be a helipad. “The other areas inside the base such as the nine-hole golf course and existing quarters housing RMAF personnel will be redeveloped,” said a source.

Last month, it was reported that plans to redevelop the Sungai Besi airport had resurfaced but both Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal claimed they were not aware of any such plans. However, it is learnt that members of the golf club and the RMAF officials have been told to look for alternative sites. The cost of relocating the base and the golf course will be borne by the consortium undertaking the redevelopment of the base.

It is not clear if the project was tendered out but according to officials in the property development industry, they were not aware of any exercise by the government calling for expression of interest in the redevelopment of the base.

One of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s plans to increase government revenue is to redevelop land held by government agencies. In this respect, he announced the development of the Rubber Research Institute land in Sungai Buloh by the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) last month. He had said that this was to pave the way for the EPF to be directly involved in the economic activities of the country.

It has been reported that apart from the RMAF, the Sungai Besi base also houses the police air wing, the air unit of the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and the Royal Selangor Flying Club. The RMAF units housed in the base include the 10th Squadron, which maintains the Nuri and Blackhawk helicopters for utility and other purposes. The other RMAF operations there are the Aerospace Medical Institute as well as the RMAF museum.

Debt crisis won't lead to Asian recession.

The European debt crisis, which is a looming concern to many nations worldwide, is not expected to drag Asia into recession, according to an economist from a foreign bank. Standard Chartered Bank regional head of research for South-East Asia Tai Hui said the economic recovery in the region in the past six months was largely driven by domestic demand and intra-regional trade while the US and Europe played a limited role in the recovery.

“Although Europe is among the top three destinations for Asia, nonetheless, due to the above reason, I don't foresee it dragging the regional economies down. Asian economies, including Malaysia, are in a resilient position and the crisis will not derail the economic recovery,” he said at a press briefing. He added that the crisis at the same time would not affect European banks to reduce its lending to Asian companies as Asian banks, including Malaysian ones, had already stepped up lending and necessary liquidity to businesses.

Furthermore, he added, continental European banks were still quite slow in re-entering the Asian banking market while the Japanese and US banks were already making strong recovery which bodes well for the region. Tai said the situation in Europe may delay the recovery of European banks lending to emerging markets but would not negatively affect Asian economies.

On Asian investments in Europe, he said they were mostly in developed parts of Europe such as in Germany and France while its exposure to Greece was relatively low. In addition, he noted Asian investments in Europe was not into complex structured assets but more on plain vanila government bonds or equities and the potential mark to market loss for such investment were insignificant compared with 2008 and 2009 during the financial crisis where toxic assets were involved.

Tai said there were some countries that may be vulnerable to the European crisis, especially those with high level of fiscal deficit/debt and low level of foreign exchange like Vietnam, Pakistan and Sri Lanka but overall, Asia was in good shape and had strong fundamentals.

For Malaysia, the bank is expecting the country's gross domestic product (GDP) growth to be 6.5% for the first quarter of this year and 5% for the full year driven mainly by government spending and consumption. He said exports were gradually improving and expected it to further improve in the second half of the year.

Despite the European crisis, it gives plenty of reasons for Bank Negara to hike up the overnight policy rate (OPR) in its announcement today. Tai said he expected the OPR to increase by another 25 basis points to 2.50% and expect another 25-basis point rise to 2.75% for the full year to reflect the normalisation of rates. He said the central bank would most likely pause the rate hike after that and only start raising it next year as economic growth started to take on a firmer footing.

On the currency front, due to the risk aversion, he said the ringgit had recently weakened against the greenback but, given the attraction of the Asian markets including Malaysia, he foresaw the ringgit strengthening in the second half.

Malaysia's proposed nuclear plant comes under fire.

Malaysian environmentalists and opposition leaders on Wednesday slammed the government's plan to build a nuclear power plant, calling it a risky venture and saying the country has sufficient energy output to meet future needs.

Energy Minister Peter Chin announced Tuesday the government has approved in principle a nuclear plant, which would start operating from 2021, as an efficient and cost-effective means to fuel economic growth. Malaysia will join neighboring Thailand and Vietnam, which have unveiled plans to operate their first nuclear power plants by 2020, while Indonesia plans to build its own on Java island by 2015.

The opposition Democratic Action Party said there was no need for nuclear power because Malaysia has a 40 percent energy reserve margin, double the government's target of 20 percent reserves. Malaysia's power usage now stands at 14,000 megawatts, out of a total capacity of 23,000 megawatts.

In addition, it said, several large hydroelectric dams are being built on Borneo island to cater to future demands. "Clearly Malaysia has more energy than it needs ... why then does Malaysia need a nuclear power plant?" the party's secretary-general, Lim Guan Eng, said in a statement.

He also expressed concerns for safety and the environment, citing the 1986 Chernobyl reactor explosion that sent a cloud of radiation over much of Europe and left some 2 million people ill. Malaysian officials maintain the plan is crucial for the country's long-term energy security in view of a growing population and future economic expansion, but say they will conduct feasibility studies before deciding whether to proceed.

Malaysia uses coal and natural gas to generate most of its electricity supply, and the government has repeatedly warned the cost of relying on both commodities is expected to spiral in the decades ahead.

The Center for Environment, Technology and Development, a local think-tank, warned that nuclear power was capital intensive and risky because it generates radioactive waste that has to be discarded. The center's chairman, Gurmit Singh, said there is a lot of energy wastage in the country because gasoline, diesel and electricity are subsidized. He urged the government to instead bolster energy efficiency and turn to other renewable sources like wind and solar power.

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, there are more than 430 nuclear power plants operating in some 30 countries worldwide, accounting for about 15 percent of global electricity output.

Remember my post on iTalk WHOA! the other day?

Sorry that I forgot to mention that I was invited for the launch event too!!! It was held at Borneo Rainforest - The social media portal that we've all been looking forward to and been so excited about was officially launched the other day. iTalk Whoa! is in fact, a platform service - or I would say, a all-in-one multi purpose portal which helps you to manage your emails, social media accounts, calendars, while allowing you to place international and local calls and sms! TELEKOM Malaysia Bhd (TM) (4863) targets to have 500,000 active iTalk calling card users by the year-end, up from 300,000 currently. The target is achievable as TM makes enhancements to the service, said TM executive vice-president of consumer Jeremy Kung.

Yesterday, TM unveiled a new social networking and communications portal called iTalk Whoa, as part of a product improvement for its iTalk users. The portal can be accessed via www.italkwhoa.com. Kung said the portal is a next-generation enhancement for iTalk users and other prepaid customers who want to communicate through other channels of popular usage.

"With the introduction of iTalk Whoa, iTalk is moving into a whole new dimension and is no longer just a prepaid calling card. "With iTalk Whoa, users will be able to use the portal as their new all-in-one site for all their communication needs," Kung said at the launch in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, yesterday.

Via iTalk Whoa, users will also be able to check emails, utilise instant messaging and make voice calls. In addition to having a portal with various elements of email, chat and other forms of communication available, iTalk Whoa also offers iTalk customers low voice call rates.

Icelandic volcano eruption intensifies!

The eruption under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier continued to spew large amounts of ash and smoke into the air and showed no signs of abating after 40 hours of activity, said Pall Einarsson, a geophysicist at the University of Iceland.

"The seismographs are showing that since this morning the intensity of the eruption seems to be growing," he said. Hot fumes had melted up to a third of the glacial ice covering the crater, causing a nearby river to burst its banks, and frequent explosions on the floor of the crater sounded like bombs going off, he said.

The floods were abating, however, and some of those living in the sparsely populated area near the volcano had returned to their homes. Another scientist said the eruption was 10 times more powerful than one which occurred last month on the flank of the volcano, though the two were part of the same event.

Astro Holdings Sdn Bhd is taking ASTRO ALL ASIA NETWORKS PLC [] (AAAN) private at RM4.30 per share or RM8.5 billion cash. This is a premium of 74 sen above the last traded price of RM3.56.

Astro Holdings comprises of Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd, Khazanah Nasional Bhd and Bumiputra Foundations, all of whom collectively hold 72.9% of voting shares in AAAN. It has no plans to maintain the listing status of AAAN.

AAAN said on Wednesday, March 17 the offeror had obtained irrevocable undertakings to accept the offer from certain parties acting in concert, who currently hold 72.9% of the shares.

"Therefore at this point, the board does not intend to seek an alternative person to make a take-over offer for the offer shares," it said. AAAN appointed Public Investment Bank Bhd and JP Morgan Securities (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd as the independent advisers to advise the independent directors and holders of the offer shares on the reasonableness of the Offer.

"The independent directors will inform holders of the offer shares of their recommendation on the offer within 10 days from the posting of the offer document," it said. Just earlier last night I met up with my best friend Ezra - someone whom I've not met for such a long time already; I mean, its been like a whole month or two since we last met up. I have been so busy with work and then CNY and all - so the last minute meet-up was really very good to say.

Anyways, let me give you a bit more on Ezra.

Meet the guy himself.
Ezra is the guy whom I've known since I was in Junior 2 - back in Sekolah Sri Inai. This is like... wow... over 21 years ago. We used to be in different classes back then, then we got into the same class in secondary school. That was until Form 3 when he left for Geelong in Melbourne. Anyways, nowadays we usually meet up at Rasta for some drinks and so on - and Ezra is most famous to call me for directions!!!! I mean, he treats me as though I am the 'Telekom directory' or like what others call me - the 'Walking GPS'.

Lately, he's been a little occupied with a new project of his. He is currently hosting 'The Effing Show' - a weekly online newscast which is part of the PopTeeVee network. Do click on this link here for more weekly updates.

Love birds are in danger of being trapped by the snoop squads of the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (JAIS) this Valentine's Day, but girls who go 'commando' (panty-less) may just get away with it.

While female students in institutes of higher learning in Selangor are being encouraged by word of mouth or via the grapevine, electronic or otherwise, about not wearing panties on that day to express their love for their boyfriends, the JAIS officers are all worked up over these deviant acts.

Jais director Datuk Mohamed Khusrin Munawi said he was disgusted by the promotion of such immoral activities.

"Muslims must understand that Valentine’s Day is not for them. We will not allow Muslim students to be taken in by such celebrations that deviate from the teachings of Islam.

"At this moment, we are unable to determine the source of the ‘no-panties movement’, but those encouraging such a culture are irresponsible," he added.

However, two students in their 20s from Shah Alam, who gave their names as Ummi and Melissa, said they were aware of the “no-panties movement”.

"I feel it is a personal matter,” said Ummi with a smile.

"Valentine’s Day is a good time to express one’s love."

"And, what we use or don’t use is our right, our freedom. But we will do what is right. It’s a new world now."

Khusrin said Jais officials would be checking budget hotels, malls and parks throughout Selangor on Feb 14 to ensure that Muslims behave themselves.

"If we find unmarried couples together, they could be charged with committing khalwat (close proximity)," he said after a meeting at the state secretariat building in Shah Alam. He said lamps in public parks will be turned on to deter couples from using such areas for amorous interludes.

"We also advise parents to ensure that their children are at home." "We will also check restaurants that offer candle-light dinners, as these often lead to possible sexual activities in budget hotels." It is not known how a girl who is not wearing panties could be singled out.

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - A church in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur was firebombed early on Friday, gutting the first storey of the building in a residential area, amid a row over the use of the word "Allah" for the Christian God.

"It is confirmed that Desa Melawati church was burnt, at about 12.25 am in the morning. There were no fatalities. We are investigating the incident and suspect foul play," said Kuala Lumpur Chief Police Officer Mohammad Sabtu Osman. A court ruling last week allowing Catholic newpaper The Herald to use "Allah" for the Christian God has been appealed by the government of the mainly Muslim nation of 28 million people.

The issue has threatened relations between the majority Malay Muslim population and the minority ethnic Chinese and Indian populations who practise a range of religions including Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism. Malaysian Muslims, who account for around 60 percent of the population, are set to protest on Friday against the ruling.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Metro Tabernacle Church in Desa Melawati here was damaged after a group of youths threw flammable materials into the ground floor of the church located in a shoplot. No one was injured in the incident as the church was empty at that time.

It was believed the incident, which occurred at about 12.30am, happened after a group of youths on motorcycles rode up to the church, smashed the glass panels on the ground floor of the three-storey building and later threw some materials into the building that started a fire.

Church lay leader Rtd Major Peter Yeow, 62, said witnesses were not near enough to get a closer look at the youths who sped away after the act.

Liverpool loses to Portsmouth.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez suffered a disastrous trip to Portsmouth after Javier Mascherano was dismissed during a miserable defeat at Fratton Park.

Pompey's victory, with the goals coming from Nadir Belhadj and Frederic Piquionne, will ignite hope of survival in the Premier League. However, Liverpool's chances of finishing in the top four are uncertain - they missed a chance to record back-to-back league wins for the first time since September.

It means Avram Grant maintains his unbeaten record against Benitez after recording two wins and two draws during his time at Chelsea in the 2008 season. Back then he ended the Spaniard's Champions League hopes at the semi-final stage - this time he has dented their chances of even qualifying for the competition.

Benitez was furious with Lee Mason, who sent two Liverpool players off during the defeat to Fulham earlier in the season, for his straight red for Mascherano, who will now miss four games through suspension.

The defeat also meant there was no celebration to mark Jamie Carragher's 600th appearance for Liverpool - until Belhadj's strike he would not have enjoyed an easier 30 minutes in his previous 599. In truth, both sides needed time to find their footing in a game played under tricky conditions. The match was able to go ahead due to the pitch being covered during the week, although there were traces of snow on the shaded areas of the turf meaning passing was sometimes hindered.

Benitez was boosted by the return of Fernando Torres after the Spain striker rested his troublesome groin in the midweek win over Wigan - but he was limited to half-chances. Recently, my buddy Ezra brought my booz and I to a nice place, situated in a nice retreat in Taman Tun Dr Ismail. Mind you, Ezra's a big shisha fan. He loves his shisha, and funniest part, despite the ~~lazy~~ ~~malas~~ 'lazy-to-drive' character of his, he's ever willing to drive to this place for his beloved SHISHA!

This place is called RASTA @ TTDI!!!!!

Sometimes I have this strong feeling that we come here so often because EZRA owns, or at least, has a share in this place.

But he insists he didnt - and in actual fact, Azim (guy on left) is the one who owns the place. Well done bro!

Anyways, let me continue with whats on the menu at this place.

As I had mentioned about previously, last Saturday - the 21st of November 2009 was supposed to be the date where there's this HUUUGGGEEEE event along Jalan Bukit Bintang down in KL. Which part of Jln Bukit Bintang was it?

It was right opposite LOT 10!!!!!!!!!!

I was hoping to get an ALL ACCESS pass while I was there - but then I realized there was really no need for that. I mean, you could just walk around and check out as well as enjoy all the different events and games that were ON!

I walked over to one of the tents there - and there was the DANCE GAME competition!!! These fellas here are really really GOOD!!!

After checking out the competition, I headed onto the street to check out the next exciting game that was on display... it was called the FREEZE MOB!

There were girls slapping each other...

There was a random guy holding a microphone...

And... then I think deserves some big applause - the guy pulling girlfriend up post!

The streets were packed with people... and even Ean and JJ from Hitz.fm were there too!!!

Then someone gave me a microphone.

That was when I knew what was up... it was the karaoke session aahahaha!!!

BUNKFACE led the way while we were all singing the "Through My Window" song!!!

Wow... its so catchy that the tune is still in my head.

I think that we need more street parties like this - so, congrats to TM! You guys did a great job!

Something really amazing happened earlier in the cinema!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I brought my darling to the cinemas at One Utama to watch 2012 - a movie that we had both anticipated for months!

During the trailer bits in the early part, TM's #everyoneconnects ad came on - you know, the cute one where the paper guy meets the paper girl?

Yes this one..

As this ad came on, some people in the cinema started standing up and singing along!!!!!!

It was such a cute moment - the ad had its lyrics on at the bottom - and very soon, everyone started singing along too!!!!

I checked with some friends - and it turns out that it wasnt just happening in One Utama - it was pretty much everywhere else in the city! Wow... I like the idea that people are actually participating in the sing-alongs and dance-alongs.

I LOVE IT!

Ex Girlfriend For HOSTAGE!

A 23-year-old man, who tried to “win” back his 35-year-old ex-girlfriend by holding her hostage with a gun, was nabbed after a two-hour stand off with police in Ampang. The drama unfolded from 9.30am, when the jilted man arrived at a hair salon owned by the woman in Taman Kosas.

It is learnt that the beautician had broken off with her boyfriend several weeks ago but the man had refused to accept it. He waited in his car for over an hour before he stormed into the outlet where he used to work as a caretaker and demanded to talk to her. When she refused, a shouting match broke out and a struggle ensued in which the woman was overpowered and assaulted by the man.

He then whipped out a pistol and fired three shots into the ceiling when two workers tried to intervene to stop him. The workers fled from the double-storey shoplot and alerted the police using a public phone.

Ampang Jaya police chief Asst Comm Abdul Jalil Hassan said two police officers contacted the man through the handphones left behind by the workers when they rushed out from the outlet. He said the officers then called the handphones repeatedly until he answered and coaxed him to surrender.

“We told him to give himself up as the shoplot was surrounded by police and the best option for him was to give himself up,” he said, adding the man put down his pistol at about 1.30pm. ACP Abdul Jalil said police seized a German-made Walther P99 semi-automatic pistol from the man.

“He told us that he bought the firearm in Penang for RM20,000 two days ago before he came to the city,” he added. ACP Abdul Jalil said police are investigating the case under Section 3 of the Firearms Act (Heavier Penalties) 1971 that carried the mandatory death sentence.

The man is being detained at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters for further questioning.

A disaster waiting to happen???

Residents of a neighbourhood in Batu Caves may be living on the brink of a disaster. Their apartment block is perched on a slope that is gradually being washed away following the endless recent downpours. The 18-floor medium-cost homes called Lakeview Apartment in Taman Jasa Perwira is right next to Taman Jasa Utama, where mud and soil flowed into a number of houses on Saturday evening following a landslip.

When The Star visited the area yesterday, the embankment below Block A of the Taman Jasa Perwira apartments was clearly being affected by erosion. Resident Ahmad Jefry, 31, said he had related the problem to the developer last month and was told that the situation would be fixed.

For now, the cooperative officer is not particularly perturbed because his unit is located slightly further away from the slope. He estimated that about 30 units in Block A were already occupied by residents, adding that he planned to move into his newly-bought apartment there soon.

“I am not particularly worried,” he said.

Other residents were somewhat anxious about the situation but some were still blissfully unaware of the erosion although their parking lot sits right atop the slope. They said that they had not noticed the erosion before. Now, though, they were getting worried.

A tropical storm roared toward Vietnam on Sunday after battering the Philippine capital and surrounding provinces, leaving 14 people dead in a region still waterlogged from three previous, back-to-back storms.

Typhoon Mirinae slammed into Manila and nearby northern Philippine provinces over the weekend then weakened into a storm as it blew out Sunday toward the South China Sea, leaving at least 14 people dead, toppling trees and damaging more than 5,500 houses with fierce winds, officials said. Mirinae was the fourth storm to lash the northern Philippines since late September and brought new hardship to areas still dealing with the previous disasters. Some 87,000 people who fled during prior storms were still living in temporary shelters when Mirinae struck.

The storm headed out over the South China Sea and was swirling 279 miles (450 kilometers) southwest of Manila early Sunday but could still bring rains and thunderstorms to western Palawan province, forecasters said. It was expected to strike Vietnam's central coast around noon Monday.

Disaster-response authorities evacuated more than 115,000 people in Manila and nearby provinces in Mirinae's path before the typhoon struck. At its height, its winds were blowing 93 miles (150 kilometers) per hour and gusting up to 115 mph (185 kph).

One river in Laguna province, south of Manila, overflowed, washing away a bridge and flooding most of lakeside Santa Cruz town. Residents clambered onto roofs to escape the waters before they receded later in the day, Mayor Ariel Magcalas said

At least 14 people died, mostly by drowning, in five provinces and four remained missing, disaster response officials said.

Ketsana was followed closely in the northern Philippines by Typhoon Parma, which triggered massive landslides in mountain regions. More than 900 people were killed in the two storms, and a third then threatened the northern Philippines before veering toward Japan.

Every morning I listen to the radio - listen to my daily dosage of 'Richard Reed' (I think its spelled like that...), and also listen to my daily Gotcha bits here and there... listening to JJ & Ean do their thing.. then today, one very very catchy tune sprung up.. it was pretty catchy...

Its almost as catchy as that Dominos Pizza song... one three hundred triple eight... bla bla bla... or that Pizza Hut song...

So anyways, I stopped thinkin of the song for a bit - and then went around blog surfing.. something I enjoy doing a lot; its like checking out chics and so on.

PETALING JAYA: More adults are relying on the Internet to get information on sex, according to a Durex Sexual Wellbeing Survey. As much as 75% of Malaysians gave credit to the Internet for teaching them the bedroom “how-tos”.

Men (75%) outnumber women (71%) in using the Internet to surf about sex. Seventy-three per cent of the respondents also learn about sex through magazines. Other sources include books (65%), friends and peers (56%) and partners (43%). All these surpass sex education at school, which makes up only 36% of them.

I personally think that they are just surfing for porn... mmm what education?

The number of respondents was at 1,026 with an equal number of women and men aged 18 years and above. Despite the figures, less than half of Malaysians — 45% of men and 39% of women — think there is enough advice and information available on the issue.

The survey stated that 73% of Malaysians who had formal sex education are satisfied with their sexual wellbeing while the global average of sexual satisfaction stands at 59%. However, the survey also found that 51% of those who received sex education at school did not learn about conception while 71% were not taught about sexually transmitted diseases.

...diseases? from orgies? or what?

Less than half of Malaysians (48%) had wished their sex education had included love, respect and on giving pleasure to one’s partner. It found that about 44% of those aged between 16 and 24 liked to have received more information on the subject in comparison to 62% among those aged between 35 and 44.

The survey is the fourth in a series of reports by Durex, with this one emphasising on knowledge and education. Previous results of the three surveys titled “Satisfaction”, “In the Bedroom” and “The Big O” can be found on www.durex.com.

The Things Stupid Malaysians Do During Fuel Hike.

In view of recent Malaysian fuel hikes, and the boredom that I am facing right now, I thought I could come up with something truly stupid - BUT TRUE about us Malaysians.

1. The moment they hear the news, they decide to go back early. WHY? They want to be the first to be in queue at the petrol station. Sorhais! Everyone else would also think the same way - hence the jam.

2. Queue up for 1km, or say like 2 hours, sitting in the car with your engine on and so on. The amount of fuel that you have now can be more economical if you head home direct instead of waiting just to fill in like RM20.

3. Get the whole damn family to join in the stupidity. Husband, wife, girlfriend, son, daughter, uncle, aunty and so on and so forth, drive every single family car to go pump petrol. This is totally stupid!

4. Pump as much as you can inside the already 70% filled up tank! RM1.92 petrol or RM2.70 petrol? Shell or Caltex? They are all the same. They still get their petrol from Petronas! And different price? The product is still the same. The petrol station owner filled up his reserves the night before!

5. Waste your existing cash on unnecessary purchase of petrol. Do the math - you're still the loser. Some sign and sign on their credit cards. Who benefits? Definitely not you.

6. In the event of the recent crude oil price downward movement causes the petrol price to be decrease, I bet you the stupid Malaysians will bring many many tong to go and fill up to stock up, in case it goes up the following week!

7. Try to car pool in order to save petrol. Next thing, they get robbed by strangers whom they try to invite into their cars. They lose the car, their money, handbags and so on and so forth. So, 41% increase in petrol? Nothing compared to their losses.

8. Wasting like 6 hours of precious time waiting in queue. Your wife is waiting for you at home. Your girlfriend gets angry at you. Some people even more stupid - waste their GSC movie tickets (say, 2 nos x RM15 = RM30) and then they go pump like 30 litres of petrol (savings RM0.78 x 40 litres = RM23.40). Do the math!

9. Wasting like the same 6 hours trying to squeeze your way into the queue. You could be driving an expensive Mercedes or BMW that costs 500k, but brains stupid like dinosaurs! Petrol saved = 30 bucks. Scratch on car = RM3,000. Sorhai or not?

10. Do not dare to drive out - cos wanna save petrol. And end up doing what? Read this blog post. Hahahahahaha....

It has been two years of hell for three Indonesian women since they began working for the owner of a catering company in Sungai Siput.

The women claimed that their 43-year-old employer would not pay them their RM400 monthly salary unless they have sex with him. They added that the man would beat and punch them in the face or choke them if they refused. Unable to endure the abuse any longer, they sought a neighbour’s help and fled the house at 5am yesterday.

“I have been molested, threatened with a knife, and beaten until my face, eyes and body are swollen,” one of the women, a 26-year-old, told reporters after lodging a report at the Buntong police station that her employer raped her last Friday.

“I came to Malaysia to earn money for my husband and child in Surabaya. Now I just want to go home. I can’t take it any more.” Her two friends, both 23, said they ran away because they, too, could not take the abuse anymore. The three said the abuse took place at the man’s house in front of his docile wife and three children.

“We cannot go anywhere because he has our passports. He told me that if I wanted my salary, I had to sleep with him,” said one of the 23-year-olds, who had a bruised eye. Buntong assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam, who is assisting the women, said the man was even known to terrorise his wife.

He urged the police to investigate the complaints of torture, assault and violation of human rights. Sungai Siput deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Mak Pak Chuai said police had sent the women for a medical check-up at the hospital.

Jaya Supermarket accident: Workers trapped, one dead!

PETALING JAYA: The abandoned Jaya Supermarket in Section 14 here collapsed after demolition operations went awry on Thursday evening.

Part of the four-storey building, a landmark of the city, collapsed at about 4:45pm, trapping nine Indonesian construction workers. Others working at the site managed to escape. The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 5:08pm and about 50 firemen immediately rushed to the scene.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Soiman Jahid said the first worker was pulled out of the rubble at 5:45pm and followed by the second about fifteen minutes later.

The two injured victims Suriono, 31, and Salleh, 45 were sent to the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). Rescue workers also recovered the body of a construction worker at 6:44pm. Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed said Suriono was admitted to the emergency ward while Salleh received outpatient treatment.

“The dead victim has been identified as Maskor, 28,” he said at a press conference at the scene. He said that six more construction workers were still trapped under the debris.

With the removal of fuel surcharge and so on, and a surge in passenger volumes, Air Asia should be making much higher revenues and perhaps bring in much more people - which indirectly create a higher occupancy rate at their Tune Hotels. Adding to those guys above, I've been reading the papers alot recently - and noticed that the cops have been gettin some bad rep recently. Certainly a cloud of bad reputation have been hovering around the Police Dept.

Perhaps, some form of rebranding then, Mr Home Minister?

Zhuge Liang's 15 Attributes of a Leader.

Being a big fan of the Romance of Three Kingdoms and of course its main character, Zhuge Liang, I have always been thinking hard in deploying some of the tactics/strategies as used and practised by Zhuge Liang into business. In this case, putting the military strategies to test and converting these strategies into proper business ethics and policies.

Zhuge Liang had mentioned that the most important person in a battle is the Military Leader, or in modern day words, the General. In the construction industry, this position generally mean anyone who's in the upper level management positions, ranging from the Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, General Managers, right up to the Chief Executive Officer.

Zhuge Liang had wrote that "The source of all defeat comes from underestimating your enemy." This is a very true statement - and mind you, many business leaders around the world have fallen due to this. Many large corporations have collapsed due to the faltering economy. Big boys such as Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers just to name a few have fallen prey and were 'defeated' because they had underestimated their enemy.

Their enemy here is the global economy - or I should say, the market forces.

Zhuge Liang has got 15 main attributes that is a must in a leader. I shall take this 15 main attributes for a military leader and adapt it accordingly for my industry.

1. Gathering Intelligence
Zhuge Liang had always relied on spies during then to obtain additional information. Today, for construction, this is a key point in a leader - he has to be able to obtain intelligence through various people around him. For the industry, he has to be able to obtain certain classified information - or more in-depth information of the 'enemy'.

2. Information
This is somehow very similar to the first attribute. But this relates to the basic information. You may have all the classified information - but if the fundamentals are not there, any special information may not be enough to see off your enemy.

3. Bravery
Zhuge Liang had always shown no fear in his battles. Any of his key Generals who showed fear were usually beheaded and removed from battle. In this case, I do not think I am going to murder anyone - but I do believe that bravery is another key point in a leader. A confident person is a brave person.

4. Selflessness
I am very supportive of this attribute. Selflessness can mean many things, but in Zhuge Liang's context, it is to be not selfish and not be moved by personal benefits. In the business, a leader who is influenced by personal benefits or profits is considered to be a corrupted leader. I always put the Company before any personal agenda and I would expect all the leaders below me to be the same.

5. Equality
Most office politics and corporate collapses starts from biasness. When the CEO of the corporation decides to be bias and reward or punish without equality, it will create an undesirable amount of dissatisfaction - hence, unnecessary agendas in the minds of the employees.

6. Patience
Patience is a key element not just in business or war, but in life. There are many leaders who fail because they are impatient to wait out the storms and so on, and many who cant wait to hear the results. These leaders are actually bringing the company to fail because they are impatient.

7. Compassion
A leader needs to have a certain amount of compassion. He must be willing to forgive those who have repented, and those who admit their mistakes. However, he must be also willing to eliminate those who never learn.

8. Trust
As per attribute 4, Trust is the most important element. Without Trust, no business can go through; no partnership can work and no war can be won.

9. Respect
Give your respect to those above and below you and be respected. Respect here is not just this part, but Zhuge Liang also highlighted "recruit those who have greater skills that yourself." Do bear in mind that Bill Gates, the world's richest man might seem like a very smart person - but the guys he is employing are way smarter, with PhDs and Masters and super-high qualifications.

10. Wisdom
The leader must be willing to listen to opinions, but must have the wisdom to judge the quality and accuracy of these opinions.

11. Humbleness
This is a common failure amongst leaders. Those who become overly arrogant tend to overlook the small details which lead to their downfall.

12. Lovingkindness
Love those working under you as though they are your own children. Educate them and train them well. This is not just for war and battles, but in construction, education and training for the lower levels is a good form of succession planning.

13. Loyalty
Zhuge Liang called for the soldiers and leaders to sacrifice themselves for the good of the country. I'm not asking for my staffs to sacrifice themselves, but do sacrifice the time and effort put in. There needs to be a balance between work and family, and I personally believe that it is NOT 50-50. Work will always come first, for without work, the family will suffer.

14. Discrimination
Avoid discrimination of any kind.

15. Strategy
The simplest of them all - but yet the toughest. Know yourself and your own strategy and planning - and know your enemy's too.

Thats about all the key elements required to be a good leader.
